Tips for Finding Books

While searching for your artist's name in OneSearch, try adding the following words:

  • Catalogs (collection of images plus discussion of an artist's work)
  • Exhibitions (collection of images plus discussion of an artist's work)
  • Biography (books describing an artist's life)
  • Criticism (books analyzing an artist's work)

How do I know if a book has illustrations?

Look  in the "Details" section for:

"Phys. Desc. 1 v. (unpaged) : ill. (some col.), ports. ; 27 cm"

ill. = illustrations.        col. = color.

Google Books contains full text for books in the public domain (pre-1923); partial text for books under copyright.

Very useful for finding out which books contain information on your topic; then you can order them via inter-library loan if Hollins doesn't have them.
