Find Books

Catalog searching tips

  • Subject Search:
    To find materials written ABOUT your subject. 
    • When viewing items, change Sort to “Reverse Year” to see newest items at top.
    • Search by last name first, then first name.
  • Author Search:
    To find materials written BY your subject.
    • Search by last name first, then first name.
  • Keyword Search
    •  Will provide mix of materials that include your keywords.
    • Will reveal materials that may not have appeared through author or subject search (e.g., if your subject was listed in the Table of Contents). 
    •  Use additional search terms such as "tourism" (in addition to your country's name) to help narrow your results.

Library Catalog Search

Search our online catalog for books, e-books and films:

WHERE:

  • HU-Reference books: located on the 1st floor of the library
  • HU-General Collection: located on the 2nd (P-Z) and 3rd (A-N) floors of the library
  • RC-General Collection: click Request this item for delivery in 1 week day!
  • E-Books: follow the link to read the book online!

HOW:

  • When searching for people, search last name first (example: Lamarr, Hedy)
  • Keywords: don't forget to try broader/narrower terms, synonyms, and related terms (examples: inventors, women inventors, women in technology, women scientists)
  • Click on each title to get the full information (catalog record)
  • Use Subject links at the bottom of the catalog record to find similar items
  • Try a Boolean Operator: AND, NOT, OR
  • How about a wildcard? Invent* will give you: Invent, Invents, Inventor, Invention
