I wanted to expand each section with a few more books, but for this category, I ran into the question of what counts as a "children's poetry" book? I went with "Wishes," since it was the Winner of Hollins' Margaret Wise Brown Prize in Children’s Literature in 2022. I also chose "A Different Pond" since it is written by a pioneer of Vietnamese American poetry, Bao Phi. Both happen to be about the Vietnamese diaspora, a timely topic since this year marks the 50th year anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, which spurred a wave of Vietnamese immigration.
