ENG 281: American Lit to 1860 (2013): Home

A guide to research for students in Professor Michelle Abate's class, created by librarians Joan Ruelle and Maryke Barber

Finding Resources for your Presentation and Paper

This course guide will offer you a variety of avenues to find useful and reliable information from high-quality sources about your classic American texts.

The good news and the bad news is that people have been writing about these books for many years.  There is no shortage of information about most of these books, but our task is to narrow your searching to find relevant results for the specific text you are investigating.

Use the tabs above to locate resources by type of material:

  • Reference sources (bibliographies, encyclopedias; biographical info; etc)
  • Books (including online books)
  • Articles

What you Need to Know

  • Your Name
  • The last 5 digits of the barcode number on your Hollins ID

You will use this information to request books from Roanoke College; and to gain access to any of our online databases.
