Advanced Research Tip: Poetry Subscriptions

While exploring educational resources that expand your understanding of poetry and its history is important, finding ways to practice the new skills you have learned is key. The best way to do that is by immersing yourself in poetry as much as possible. In our everyday lives, which tend to become overwhelmed with the hundreds of other tasks we are responsible for, it can be challenging to find time to read poetry that interests us. An easy way to incorporate a bit of poetry into a busy schedule is to subscribe to a daily poem newsletter. Most are free to sign up for and only require an email address. In addition to reading/listening to the daily poems you receive, it would be beneficial to record your thoughts somewhere. This would ensure thoughtful engagement with poetics and growth as a poet or an appreciator of the form.

Option 1: "Poem-a-day" from Poets.org. You will receive one poem in your inbox daily with a direct link to the website if you would like to hear the poem read aloud. This service highlights previously unpublished work from emerging contemporary poets.

Option 2: "Poem of the Day" from The Poetry Foundation. One poem will be sent to your inbox daily. The editor pulls from poems in The Poetry Foundation's archive corresponding to historic events and anniversaries.
